Fun Fall Resources for 2nd-3rd Grade
Who is ready for fall?? After all that 2020 has thrown at us, I’m just kind of ready for some pumpkin spice lattes and cooler weather to distract me a tiny bit from the chaos that is the world right now. Is anyone else with me? I’m going to choose to not sit around and feel sad about how different all of the fall and holiday traditions may look this year, but instead focus on the things that will remain the same. The weather will get cooler, we can still teach pumpkin and apple-themed things to our kids even if it’s through the computer, and fall will happen even if we’re all spread out a little bit more than normal.
In the spirit of my favorite season heading our way soon, I wanted to share some of my favorite fall activities that I have in my TpT store. Also, I’m sharing a couple of my favorite Fall read alouds for 2nd grade!
Fall Choice Boards
I love choice boards as early finisher work, homework, and center work! My fall sets include the same academic rigor as my math menus and other choice boards, but with a festive, fall theme for the months of August, September, and October!
Run a Pumpkin Patch
This mini PBL math task asks students to become entrepreneurs for a moment, and run a pumpkin patch! Setting prices, creating a brochure, planning food and pumpkin sales, and more fun tasks will have your students fully engaged!
Pumpkin Shapes
This fun craft activity is both printable and digital, and is perfect for fall! Students will use geometry skills to create a pumpkin’s face. Challenge cards ask students to create a pumpkin face with “29 sides”, etc. These cute pumpkins make a great printable bulletin board display, or a fun digital math center!
Plan a Fall Festival
Your students will step into the shoes of an event planner and plan a great, fall festival for their community! Everything from planning a baked goods stand, mapping the route of the hay ride, and creating an ad for social media will be on your students’ to-do list in this fun, math PBL!
Place Value Scarecrows
So many of us kick off the school year with a giant place value unit, and things always managed to wrap up for me right when I started turning my attention to all things fall! That makes this adorable scarecrow craftivity the perfect thing for your classroom! Students build a scarecrow after completing place value task cards, then they use some of their findings to build a scarecrow!
How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin?
This book is a great math investigation about pumpkins! It’s the perfect book to kick off a pumpkin unit in your room this year.
The Scarecrow
We all know that scarecrows are meant to SCARE crows away from crops, but in this sweet story about friendship, a scarecrow and a baby crow form a bond. This is the sweetest book, and the perfect way to kick off a scarecrow project (like the place value scarecrows, shared above!)
I hope this list gave you some Fall teaching inspiration! You can see any of these resources in my TPT store by clicking the titles and pictures above, or browse all Fall resources by clicking the button below! Happy Fall, everyone!
