Geometry Activities | Round-Up
Geometry is one of those teaching units that seems to fly by. Your students likely will already have a lot of prior knowledge from Kinder and 1st grade that you’re simply building upon. This means that you can really make your geometry lessons extra hands-on, because your kids will be ready to dig right in!
Today, I’m sharing a round up of some of my favorite geometry activities! If you’re looking to add to your resource collection this year, I have a variety of differentiated, hands-on, engaging, and rigorous activities for your classroom. You can find each of these products in my TPT store.
2D Shapes Tacos
I am telling you guys right now…your kids will LOVE this craft. Students use 2D shapes to fill their tacos, then they must write about how many vertices, polygons, edges, etc. there are in their tacos. It’s a great review of all of your academic vocabulary, and makes for a really cute piece of art that you can hang up!
2D and 3D Shapes Construction
These activity packs practice 2D and 3D shapes separately, all with a construction theme! Your kids will love digging for shapes, building 3D shapes with play-doh and toothpicks, and doing a dozen other hands-on, engaging activities to practice their geometry skills!
Geometry Journal Prompts & Choice Boards
I have these journal prompts for every math unit you can teach in 2nd grade. These journal prompts can be projected or printed and cut out for students to glue in math notebooks. They practice each of the Common Core Math Standards for the unit, ensuring that your students are writing about their thinking through every lesson you teach! Print and cut them out at the beginning of a new unit, and have them ready to go as a great warm-up at the beginning of each math block!
I also have choice boards for every 2nd grade domain! These choice boards make great early finisher activities, center work, or even could be sent home as homework during that teaching unit. The possibilities are endless, and the prep is super minimal!
I hope this list gave you some fresh ideas for how you can help your students master geometry this year! You can click the button below to see all of the resources I have in my store! Happy teaching, everyone!
