Project Based Learning Math Activities

This math PBL project will have your students practicing real-world math applications while having a BLAST! This project based learning task is a great extension and enrichment activity for your early finishers. This project has students plan their trip to outer space! They must complete several training tasks and complete missions while in space, practicing several common core math standards along the way. Students will love getting to select their space crew and meet aliens in new solar systems, and YOU will love the enriched math practice they get along the way.

⭐ HERE ARE THE TASKS STUDENTS WILL COMPLETE:

•Selecting a Crew: Students use addition/subtraction to stay within budget while hiring a crew for their space trip.

•Astronaut Training: Students practice elapsed time by selecting training course they want to take. They must make a schedule for themselves based on how long each class is. 

•Packing for Space: Students help other astronauts count their money and make decisions about what they can and can't afford as they pack for space. Students practice counting, adding, and subtracting money.

•Measuring Distances: Students must use an inch ruler to measure the distance between planets and answer measurement questions.

•Alien Invasion: Students discover new planets and meet aliens. They use multiplication and repeated addition to find out how many aliens live on the planet. 

•Space Exploration: Students gather and examine data about a new solar system. They create a bar graph and answer questions about the data.
